The Public Library of Science (PLoS) received this grant to manage the transition from the current pay-for-access research publication system to an open-access system by launching a family of new, highly respected on-line research journals. Outcomes for this grant include creation of two unrestricted, online research journals—PLoS Biology and PLoS Medicine.
