Purpose
In support of a creating a deeper understanding of how the food choices of marine microbes contribute to carbon cycling off of the coast of California. High precision isotope techniques and molecular biology methods will be combined in new ways to characterize the flow of nutrients in marine microbial ecosystems to identify which microbes prefer which types of food molecules and how microeukaryote–bacterium food web interactions influence carbon use patterns.
Funding area:  Science  /  Marine Microbiology Initiative
