The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced today the appointment of Chris McCrum in the newly created role of chief administrative officer.
In this role, McCrum will have responsibility for leading administrative operations to support the Foundation’s strategic goals and its staff, grantees, and other external partners. These include grants administration, facilities and technology, evaluation, external communications, finance, and program finance. McCrum will report directly to Steve McCormick, the Foundation’s president.
“Chris has a track record as a proven leader and strategic builder,” said McCormick. “His skills and experience will be valuable assets in directing our financial and other resources to bolster our programs and their change-making activities, and we are thrilled to have him join us.”
In accepting the position, McCrum said, “this is a world class organization with extraordinary potential, and I am pleased to have this opportunity to help realize this potential.”
McCrum has extensive experience in strategic services development, organizational performance, and finance. Prior to joining the Foundation, he was the chief administrative officer of Barclays Global Investors (BGI), a large institutional asset manager. In this role he was responsible for human resources, corporate responsibility, real estate, business continuity management, and security. Additionally, McCrum served as a member of BGI’s Board and US Executive Committee. During his tenure as CAO, he championed and led a corporate responsibility function that incorporated philanthropy, diversity and environmental affairs. He also served as head of human resources and co-chief financial officer. Prior to his time at BGI, McCrum spent two years with internet start-ups, including serving as chief financial officer of a web hosting company. Previously, he worked in finance at Bank of America and with auditing firms Price Waterhouse and KPMG.
McCrum holds a B.A. in accounting, with honors, from Exeter University in England. He is also a UK Chartered Accountant. McCrum is a board member of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra in San Francisco.
