On May 24th at a news conference in São Paulo, Walmart, Marfrig and The Nature Conservancy launched a new-to-market, deforestation-free, climate-smart line of beef products (“Rebanho Xingu”) sourced from a successful demonstration project in São Felix do Xingo. The companies aim to expand the project from 16 to 300 farms in three years. At the same time, Walmart committed to monitor deforestation throughout the entire Brazilian supply chain, nation-wide—from the Amazon, to the Cerrado, to the Atlantic Forest—by the end of 2017.
