Today, the Premier of British Columbia announced the results of final negotiations for the Great Bear Rainforest agreement. The deal, more than a decade in the making, doubles the amount of temperate, old-growth forest that will be designated off-limits to logging. The agreement is a global model for sustainable development, and the conservation measures--for what now represents the world's largest swath of coastal temperate rainforest--are being heralded as a gift for future generations.
