Founded in 1968 as part of UC Berkeley’s centennial celebration, the Lawrence Hall of Science is now celebrating 50 years of inspiring and fostering science learning for all. Since the Hall opened to the public, learning by doing has been core to their mission and goals.

The Moore Foundation has been pleased to support the Lawrence Hall of Science in their efforts to inspire those in their communities to remain curious about science. They develop programs that engage diverse participants across the learning continuum – from simple curiosity to deep understanding – keeping science inquiry at the forefront of their work.

50 years of innovation and inspiration

“We want to disseminate the most innovative and effective science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs available today,” said Rena Dorph, Director of the Lawrence Hall of Science. “Every year, the Hall reaches more than 12 million young people around the world in STEM learning experiences that inspire them by engaging them in the same practices and activities that scientists and engineers use in their work.”

As the body of scientific knowledge in the Hall’s work continues to grow, we look forward to seeing their continued progress in the field of science learning.
