Last week, the British Columbia government and the Tahltan Central Government announced a new plan to balance social, environmental and cultural values to protect more than 800,000 acres at the shared headwaters of the Skeena, Stikine and Nass rivers.

Since 2001, the Moore Foundation has supported the conservation of large expanses of habitat in key watersheds, ensuring sustainable management of salmon fisheries and promoting natural resource use practices to help maintain healthy salmon ecosystems.

The conservation of British Columbia's "Sacred Headwaters" region builds on this work, and years of active engagement by local communities concerned about proposed coal and coal bed methane development in the area. This development could have had devastating impacts to wild salmon, the surrounding ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
