As the science that reaches beyond the stars, astronomy captures our collective imagination. From the earliest voyagers who navigated by starlight to the innovators who developed the first telescope, astronomy inspires us.
These breakthroughs further our knowledge of the origins of the universe billions of years ago and help us understand our place within it today. The Thirty Meter Telescope will build upon these advances to enlighten future generations.
As a newly powerful optical telescope, TMT will enable astronomers to see further into our universe and reach back toward the beginning of time.
We at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation are proud to be working with world-renowned U.S. universities, including the University of Hawaii, University of California, and the California Institute of Technology; and with universities, research institutes and governments in Canada, China, India and Japan in this global, scientific endeavor.
