Like any industry, the seafood business is experiencing a wave of change that could affect everyone from fishermen, to sushi-lovers. Monica Jain, leader of Fish 2.0, recently penned a blog post for World Positive that discusses these changes. The foundation supports Fish 2.0 through its Marine Conservation and Oceans and Seafood Markets Initiatives. It’s most recent grant helped advance sustainable fisheries, with a particular focus on New England wild capture fisheries.
“It’s 2027, and we’re no longer gorging ourselves on shrimp. Or tuna. Or salmon. Not because they’ve disappeared from the oceans of we’re appalled by how they’re being produced, but because we’re eating so many other delicious fish from land and sea — like porgy, dogfish, lionfish, barramundi, and others we’ve yet to meet.”
Jain believes that the pace of change in the seafood industry will only continue to increase, as big industry players entrepreneurs and investors are focused on seafood sustainability like never before.
