This grant supports Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), working with the Government of Southern Sudan, in its effort to create and consolidate a protected area system encompassing East Africa’s largest intact wild grassland. The outcomes of this grant include the creation and consolidation of 30,000 km2 of protected areas, the creation of an additional 28,000 km2 of new protected areas, the implementation of a surveillance program to protect the migration of mega-fauna across the 200,000 km2 Boma-Jonglei landscape, and the design of a sustainable finance strategy with a focus on ecotourism.
