UC Berkeley is using this grant to establish the Center for Integrated Genomics. The formation of the new center brings together researchers from several traditionally isolated fields of study to analyze and compare the genome sequences of a broad spectrum of organisms. Outcomes for this grant include the acquisition of the genome sequences of diverse organisms (Ciona, Phytophthora, and Xenopus tropicalis) and comparison of these sequences in an evolutionary context. Additional outcomes include decoding of regulatory DNA—the regions of the genome that control gene expression—and the protein factors that bind to them.
