Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Aliança da Terra works with rural food producers in Brazil to promote responsible natural resource management and to conserve native vegetation. The organization was founded in 2004 in response to rapid degradation of the Amazon biome in northeastern Mato Grosso state. Since its inception, its work has spread to over 700 rural properties.
For companies seeking to evaluate their supply chain and consumers concerned with the origin of their food, Aliança da Terra designed the “Producing Right Platform,” which provides an environmental, social and production profile on participating properties. The organization also partners with academic and research institutions on projects related to rural food production and natural resource conservation. A ten-member firefighting unit trains volunteers to expand firefighting capacity across Brazil’s interior, and a number of projects support the social and economic development of local small landholders and indigenous communities.
