Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Founded in 1995, Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (Amazon Institute for Environmental Research) is a nonprofit, independent research, policy and outreach organization working for the sustainable development of the Amazon to generate economic prosperity and social justice while maintaining the integrity of its ecosystems.
Headquartered in Belem, Brazil, and spread across nine regional offices, the institute’s scientists and educators address the problems of degraded landscapes, non-sustainable economies and social injustice in the Amazon region with the premise that effective solutions must incorporate the active participation of people living in the region. The institute’s work is divided into four areas: environmental governance, economic incentives and sustainability, sustainable production activities and vulnerability and environmental adaptation.
