Solidaridad North America is part of an international nonprofit working across ten regional offices on five continents to create a sustainable economy that works for all. The organization was founded in 1969 by Catholic bishops in the Netherlands to provide development aid to Latin America. Since then, it has expanded its focus to building socially responsible, profitable and ecologically sound supply chains for twelve commodities: soy, cotton, livestock, tea, sugarcane, fruit and vegetables, gold, cocoa, coffee, textiles, palm oil and aquaculture. Globally, Soidaridad has supported over half a million farmers, nearly 5,500 miners and 180,000 workers.
Solidaridad North America focuses on connecting producers to markets in order to realize higher incomes for workers and assure the security and quality of products for buyers. Staff work in San Francisco, New York and Washington D.C. offices. They advise on opportunities and risks within specific supply chains, recommend market-based solutions that reflect environmental values and the social and ecological costs of production, and facilitate corporate sustainability innovations.
