Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Peru’s Ministerio del Ambiente (Ministry of Environment) promotes environmental sustainability by preserving and protecting the country’s ecosystems and natural resources. Priorities are determined by consensus from a representative governmental group that includes the Ministries of Agriculture, Culture, Energy, Mines, Economy, Finance, Production, Development and Social Inclusion.
The ministry’s work includes formulating and overseeing the National Environmental Policy, National Environmental Action Plan and National Environmental Action Agenda. It ensures compliance with environmental standards through monitoring and incentives and provides technical support to regional and local governments to ensure decentralized functions are implemented in accordance with set policies and regulations. Land use and protection, recovery of degraded environments, solid waste control, air quality, and natural resource and biodiversity management are under the ministry’s jurisdiction. The ministry also promotes scientific research, technological innovations and citizen participation to further sustainable development and foster a national environmental culture.
