Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Based in San Diego, the Tropical Forest Group catalyzes policy, science and advocacy to conserve and restore the planet’s remaining tropical forests. The organization is an accredited observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and orchestrates high-impact education and advocacy campaigns aimed at increasing tropical forest conservation finance.
Tropical Forest Group provides direct support to community forestry projects in developing countries and provides free or reduced cost advice to projects in conflict and post-conflict areas. The organization provides consulting and strategic research services on tropical forest policy, scientific methodologies, sustainable finance and project development and evaluation. The group also partners with academic institutions to perform ecosystem carbon modeling, measurements, analysis, statistics and accounting. Most of the organization’s projects are located in Africa, including the effort to reduce emissions from deforestation in Cross River State, Nigeria. The group is working with local conservation groups and the government to raise funds, provide REDD training and workshops, and assist with forest carbon measurements and baselines.
