Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Equipe de Conservacao da Amazonia (the Amazon Conservation Team), now called Fundo Vale, is a nonprofit created by the Vale Corporation to support global sustainability through conservation, indigenous quality of life and environmental governance activities. Since its inception in 2009, the organization has worked in six Brazilian states (Pará, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Acre and Amapá) on 43 initiatives in partnership with more than 25 environmental organizations. Its programs are grouped into three areas: strategic monitoring, protected areas and biodiversity and green municipalities.
Fundo Vale aims to strengthen conservation monitoring and policies of intervention. The organization has developed a deforestation monitoring tool to track over 41 million hectares of land, representing 100 percent of the Brazilian Amazon, and transferred this technology and expertise to Ecuador. It promotes integrated land management as a framework for regional development to ensure sustainability of ecosystems and indigenous peoples. It also supports a new agenda for the sustainable development of cities, experimenting with different approaches that engage local communities, strengthen local governments, conserve natural resources and drive social and economic activity.
