Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership works to reshape corporate responsibility through information, tools and methods that allow companies to directly engage with natural resource suppliers. Its mission is to rebuild depleted fish stocks and reduce the environmental impacts of fishing and fish farming through global sustainable seafood supply chains.
The organization has created an open database of fisheries, called FishSource, which provides reliable and detailed profiles of source products and their sustainability status for seafood purchasers. The partnership also brings together catchers, processors and other stakeholders to create plans for fishery and aquaculture improvements. More than 40 such fishery improvement projects operate around the world, from the coast of Alaska to the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of California. Annual reports on the study of various seafood industry sectors, including crab, salmon, tuna and whitefish, analyze the performance of relevant fisheries, their principal sustainability challenges and the volume of available product to the market in various categories of management.
