The International Game Fish Association is committed to the conservation of game fish and the promotion of responsible, ethical angling practices through science, education, rule making and record keeping. Based in Dania Beach, Florida, and founded in 1939, the association is the leading authority on angling pursuits and the keeper of the most current world record fishing catches by fish categories.

The association’s objectives are founded on the beliefs that game fish species, related food fish and their habitats are economic, social, recreational and aesthetic assets that must be maintained, wisely used and perpetuated. It also views the sport of angling as an important recreational, economic and social activity which the public must be educated to pursue in a manner consistent with sound sporting and conservation practices.

The association produces an annual World Record Game Fishes publication, which provides fishing tips and includes an extensive fish identification guide. The organization is also an ardent proponent of aquatic habitat conservation and cooperates with biologists worldwide.
