The mission of the Bay Area Discovery Museum is to ignite and advance creative thinking for all children. Programming and installations focus on interactive, play-based learning to foster social-emotional development, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge on 7.5 acres of national park land, the museum serves children up to age 8, their parents, caregivers and educators. A primary focus is to ensure that visitors reflect the ethnic and socio-economic communities of San Francisco and Marin counties.

Museum researchers study and advance understanding of childhood creativity, the design of outdoor early childhood museum settings and the science learning behavior of young children. The onsite Discovery School is the only museum-based preschool in California, and camps and classes offer opportunities for deeper engagement with a specific topic.
