Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Sustainable Northwest is a Portland-based nonprofit dedicated to restoring forests, rivers and rangelands for healthier habitats and clean air and water. Founded in 1984, the organization works collaboratively with environmental groups, federal agencies and business interests to rebuild regional economies through land stewardship and market incentives for sustainable wood and clean energy.
The organization partners with dozens of forest collaboratives across Oregon and Washington to develop sustainability plans for economic and ecological restoration after decades of overlogging. It helps Oregon communities implement renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and lay a foundation for a new natural resource economy. It works with farmers, ranchers, tribes and conservationists across the west to build water solutions that protect fish, ensure adequate supply for cities and agriculture, and secure living wage jobs for rural residents. Facilitation and conflict resolution, scientific and regulatory advice, advocacy for balanced state and federal policies and communications strategies are other areas of expertise used to tackle the natural resource challenges of the region.
