Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Founded in 1971, San Francisco Parks Trust partnered with the San Francisco Departments of Parks and of Public Works and community organizations to facilitate the construction and maintenance of parks and community gardens. In 2011, it merged with the Neighborhood Parks Council to form the San Francisco Parks Alliance The San Francisco Parks Alliance is an environmental organization that contributes to the green movement by supporting and advocating for urban parks. It is committed to fulfilling a vision of parks that acknowledges and supports their critical environmental functions while striving to ensure that they are accessible and managed in such a way that makes them accountable and welcoming to all. Through coalition-driven advocacy, the organization directs and collaborates on a spectrum of programs to foster citizen involvement in San Francisco’s open spaces.
The alliance works with community groups and public agencies on a range of activities to steward parks and open spaces. Through fundraising, community mobilizing and technical expertise, it raises millions of dollars to renovate or beautify parks and enhances programmatic offerings. Through collaboration, the alliance leads an initiative to re-envision the city’s southeastern waterfront into a 13-mile corridor of connected parks, trails and open space.
