The Center for New American Security is based in Washington, D.C. and was established in 1972 as independent, non-partisan, policy think-tank positioned to develop strong, pragmatic and principled national security and defense policies.

Building on the expertise and experience of its staff and advisors, the organization engages policymakers, experts and the public with innovative, fact-based research, ideas and analysis to shape and elevate the national security debate. Its network of board members, founders, leaders, scholars and interns have held or gone on to prominent positions in the U.S. government, at the departments of Defense and State, White House, Central Intelligence Agency, Congress and in the private sector.

Among its activities, the Center for New American Security hosts events and convenings, most notably the CNAS Annual Conference. The center publishes several blogs, including the National Security Blog, and manages countless projects devoted to U.S. security interests in various countries, as well as on security issues related to defense spending, climate change and the Internet.
