Oceanic Society's mission is to conserve marine wildlife and habitats by deepening the connections between people and nature. Established in 1972, the Oceanic Society Expeditions are designed to facilitate meaningful, life-changing experiences for travelers—ones that will inspire them to become more intimately involved in conservation long after the expedition is over.

These expeditions support conservation, research and community development efforts that serve to underpin long-term sustainable relationships between people and the oceans. By participating in an Oceanic Society expedition, travelers are active participants in the society’s effort to build a healthy future for the oceans.

By traveling to the world's parks and reserves, participants are helping to protect those wilderness areas by contributing to an economy that is in harmony with conservation. Since 1972, the Oceanic Society Expeditions program has allowed Oceanic Society members to participate in ship-based expeditions around the world, sometimes accomplishing specific research objectives.

Past expeditions include trips to New Zealand, Australia, Europe, the Caribbean, South and Central America, and the California coast. Recently, expeditions offer eco-tourism programs and volunteer vacations to the Galapagos Islands, Palau, Raja Ampat, Belize and Kenya, among others.
