Ekwok Village is located in Southwest Alaska, 285 miles outside of Anchorage. It is the oldest continuously occupied Yup’ik Eskimo village on the Nushagak River and is considered part of the Bristol Bay region. Incorporated in 1974, the city’s residents are primarily Native subsistence fisherman.

The Ekwok Village Council is one of 31 local tribes that have come together to provide social, educational and economic services to the indigenous people of the region. The Village of Ekwok has worked to engage Bristol Bay tribes in efforts to conserve the regional salmon habitat and to encourage participation in the Bristol Bay Regional Vision planning process completed in 2011.
