Formed in 1988, the University System of Maryland is the state’s public higher education system comprised of 12 institutions, two regional higher education centers and a system office. Its 12 institutions offer over 1,000 academic programs to more than 152,000 students at 200 sites worldwide.

The system’s institutions include the flagship University of Maryland, College Park; other University of Maryland campuses in Baltimore, Princess Anne, Adelphi and other locations; three state universities; and Salisbury University, Towson University and the University of Baltimore.

The system’s faculty and staff fuel research and discovery, attracting more than $1 billion in external grants and contracts annually. This research is advancing understanding in many areas, including bioinformatics, cybersecurity, environmental science, food science, photonics, the social sciences and vaccine development.

Our work with the University System of Maryland ranges from an investigator award aimed at discovering novel quantum materials, to a cross-program effort to support to map agricultural commodity and other land use changes in South America.
