Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Instituto de Manejo e Certificacao Florestal e Agricola (Institute of Agricultural and Forest Management and Certification) was founded in 1995. Based in Piracicaba, Brazil, the organization operates in 25 states in Brazil and Argentina.
Its rainforest conservation work is divided into four strategic areas: environmental certification, community development, public policy and supply chains. The organization’s certification program began in 2007, recognizing that responsible behavior contributes to the conservation of natural resources, provides decent and fair conditions for workers and promotes good community relations. The group also promotes local sustainable development policies that employ innovative management practices and land use, to conserve natural resources, generate income and guarantee the rights of local workers and populations. The institute also works to shift production chains within the forest and agricultural sectors to more sustainable practices.
