Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Incorporated in 2004, the Two Blades Foundation is a charitable organization that supports the development of durable disease resistances in crop plants and their deployment in agriculture. Based in Evanston, Illinois, the foundation aims to produce successful, sustainable, environmentally friendly genetic solutions that increase the supply of safe, healthy food and improve the human condition. In development programs with leading global academic institutions, 2Blades serves as grantmaker, program manager and steward to bring technology advances into practical application.
The foundation supports development programs in laboratories in North and South America, Europe and Australia and operates a laboratory in Norwich, United Kingdom. Projects include work to identify new sources of resistance genes for Asian soybean rust, a disease endemic in the traditional sites of soybean cultivation; research to transfer disease-resistant genes into tomatoes to combat bacterial leaf spot disease; and the engineering of new disease-resistant genes in citrus to combat citrus canker.
