Based in San Francisco, the World Affairs Council of Northern California was founded in 1947 following the San Francisco conference that established the United Nations. Since its inception, the council has valued balanced discourse, serving as a neutral forum to educate on global issues. Past speakers have included distinguished heads of state, rising global thought leaders and experts on topics such as economy, security, development, human rights, health, climate change and technology.
The council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with local roots and global reach, serving an intellectually curious Northern Californian audience with engaging and enriching in-person programming. The council connect viewers and listeners across the globe from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe to in-depth analysis and contextually rich content through live streams of onsite programming and an extensive online media library.
Through a variety of initiatives, the council strives to achieve its mission of exploring issues and opportunities that transcend borders and promote open, balanced discourse across sectors to inform on timely matters of global importance.
