Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Founded in 1884, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center devoted to patient care, research and education. More than a dozen multidisciplinary cancer care teams work together to provide the best possible care. Care team members include surgeons; medical, surgical and radiation oncologists; pathologists; nurses; and psychiatrists. Clinicians specialize in diagnosing and treating all forms of the disease, serving patients with more than 400 subtypes of cancer each year.
As one of 45 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Care Centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering conducts state-of-the-art scientific research alongside clinical care and treatment. More than 120 research laboratories study the basic biology of the disease, translate discoveries made in the lab to the clinic and analyze and interpret biomedical data. The center also conducts one of the largest clinical trial programs in the world, transforming basic science into new treatment advances. Educational programs prepare the next generation of clinicians and scientists through collaborations with The Rockefeller University, Cornell University and Weill Corner Medical College. Thousands of residents, clinical and research fellows, medical and nursing students and high schoolers participate in highly specialized training programs each year.
