Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Founded in 1893 as the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, the National League for Nursing was the first nursing organization in the United States. The Washington D.C.-based organization is led by a board of governors elected at large by the membership for three-year terms. The league’s mission is “to promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of our nation and the global community.”
The National League for Nursing offers professional development, networking opportunities, testing services, nursing research grants and public policy initiatives to its over 40,000 members, who represent nursing education programs across the spectrum of higher education, and health care organizations and agencies. With 25 affiliated constituent leagues, serving 27 states, the league encourages members to get involved at the local level to advance their field. The organization also publishes a peer-reviewed bimonthly research journal, newsletters, reports and books.
