Founded in 1855, The Pennsylvania State University is a public research university made up of 24 campuses across the state with its flagship located in University Park. With a mission of teaching, research and public service, Penn State serves almost 100,000 students and 17,000 faculty and staff members.

The university offers associate, undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs as well as the online World Campus program. A teaching hospital that provides care to more than a million patients a year, a medical school, nursing school and various other health care-related programs are also part of Penn State. In research, the university ranks near top nationally in annual spending on science and engineering. The university system also includes the Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies, Penn State Law, Dickinson Law and the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Our work with Penn State ranges from the support of the creation of a dedicated "next generation" marine microbiology DNA sequencing resource, to sequencing DNA for both the Tasmanian devil and California condor, to aid in their survival.
