Based in Washington, D.C., Environmental Law Institute works to improve environmental law and governance and helps governments, nonprofits, businesses, universities, judges and environmentalists implement environmental innovations. The organization was founded in 1969 to publish the pioneering monthly Environmental Law Reporter. Today, its work includes research, training and additional publications on the field, including books, newsletters and manuals.
Environmental Law Institute works in every U.S. state and in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The organization drafts legislation tailored to the needs of local communities and trains judges and environmental professionals to improve the global implementation of natural resource law. It compiles data and maps to inform decisions about critical environmental issues and makes hard-to-find resources accessible. It also convenes stakeholder groups, such as scientists and journalists to work through challenges to reporting, and public health officials to identify solutions to indoor environmental quality problems.
