The San Mateo County Community College District is comprised of the College of San Mateo, Skyline College in San Bruno and Cañada College in Redwood City. The three community colleges combined offer quality transfer programs, more than 80 vocational degree and certificate programs, training for working professionals and developmental education to prepare students for university studies.

The College of San Mateo, founded in 1922, is located at the northern corridor of Silicon Valley and is situated on 153 acres. The college offers 79 associate degree majors, 75 certificate programs and approximately 100 transfer areas and majors. Founded in 1960, Skyline College offers more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs. Located near Redwood City, Cañada College was established in 1968 and offers more than 40 instructional programs under three instructional divisions: business, design and workforce, humanities and social sciences, and science and technology.

The San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation funds student scholarships and school programs at the three community colleges. For the 2014-15 school year, the foundation offered scholarships totaling $851,741 and provided $475,773 in program support.
