Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Brazil’s Centro de Trabalho Indigenista (Indigenous Work Center) operates in the Amazon, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, and was founded in 1979 by members of the area’s indigenous population and anthropologists. The center is committed to a long-term working relationship with the indigenous people of the Amazon, with a focus on territorial rights recognition, cultural appreciation and conservation of their lands.
Projects empower indigenous communities to take effective control of their territories, help educate local communities about the state's role in the protection and guarantee of their constitutional rights, and support conservation of millions of hectares of indigenous lands. In addition, the organization aids with projects related to the implementation of schools, training of indigenous teachers and production of education materials.
