Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Fundacao Vitoria Amazonica (Amazon Vitória Foundation) was founded in 1990 by a group of scientists, entrepreneurs and students at the Workshop 90 international conservation event in Manaus to provide a local response to environmental problems in the state of Amazonas. Today, the environmental organization promotes the conservation of biodiversity in the Amazon through the generation and application of knowledge that contributes to sustainable human development in the Rio Negro basin.
The organization establishes strong relationships with the residents of the local communities of the Rio Negro, developing a participatory, research-based understanding of the demands and perspectives of these communities. It employs a variety of multidisciplinary strategies to develop models that combine income generation, improvement of quality of life and conservation of nature in its biodiversity projects.
