Generation Earth served as the fiscal agent for the 2005 World Environment Day whose main celebrations took place in San Francisco. The theme was Green Cities: Plan for the Planet and was organized with the support of the City and County of San Francisco and the San Francisco Department of the Environment, as well as the United Nations which established the annual June 5 event in 1972.

Participants included former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Vice-President of the United States of America, Al Gore, former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, and United Nations Environmental Programme former Executive Director, Klaus Toepfer.

In addition, more than 350 activities were organized by various sectors in the city and Bay Area. During the opening ceremony, which took place at City Hall, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled a plan to combat global warming by setting goals for reducing California’s emissions of greenhouse gases.
