Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Sonoma Land Trust was founded in 1976 by a group of residents committed to preserving the surrounding landscape. Early land acquisitions and conservation easements created a foundation of open space across California’s Sonoma County, covering areas of old growth redwoods, working farms, oak woodlands and varied plant communities. More than 48,000 acres have been permanently protected from development to date.
The trust develops long-term land protection strategies, secures funding for conservation, stewards and restores conservation properties and promotes a sense of place through education and outreach. It works closely with the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District to acquire major land and conservation easements throughout the county. The trust also works to protect systems such as watersheds, trail and wildlife corridors, and agricultural and working lands.
Our work with the Sonoma Land Trust ranges from the protection of numerous properties to developing a countywide natural resource conservation strategy.
