Founded in 1859, the University of Oregon is located on a 295-acre campus in Eugene. More than 24,000 students from all 50 states and more than 95 countries are enrolled in 316 academic programs ranging from accounting, comparative literature and marine biology to folklore, digital arts and environmental sciences.

The university leads the nation in finding sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. The Oregon Master of Business Administration is the top-ranked “Green MBA” in the country, and the Sustainable Cities Initiative engages students and cities in bringing environmental solutions to urban planning. A green chemistry program builds and tests sustainable products and makes science labs more environmentally friendly.

Research, both bench and applied, is a core activity. The university is one of only two Association of American Universities research institutions in the Pacific Northwest and the only one in Oregon. More than $110 million in grants, contracts and competitive awards were secured in 2014. The university has a 9.2 percent return on research through licensing income, making it one of the top performing institutions nationally. University research infrastructure includes a new state-of-the art integrated sciences building dedicated to interdisciplinary research and a supercomputer that provides scientists with thousands of processing cores, computational accelerators, terabytes of storage and high speed integrated network interfaces that enables projects unimaginable a decade ago.
