Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Organization for Tropical Studies is a nonprofit network whose mission is to provide leadership in education, research and responsible use of natural resources in the tropics. Based in Costa Rica, the Organization for Tropical Studies is a consortium of nearly sixty universities, colleges and research institutions from around the world.
In the early 1960s, scientists from American universities forged working relationships with colleagues at the Universidad de Costa Rica in the interest of strengthening education and research in tropical biology. Intense interest, both in the United States and in Costa Rica, led to the founding of the organization in 1963 to provide leadership in education, research and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics.
The organization offers intensive field courses for undergraduates, graduate students and natural resource professionals in tropical biology and related disciplines in Costa Rica and South Africa.
