Founded in 1909, Samuel Merritt University is a fully accredited health sciences institution with three campuses in Northern California. The university is committed to the mission of educating students to become highly skilled and compassionate health care professionals who, in turn, positively transform the experience of care in diverse communities.

The university is one of the largest sources of new registered nurses in California, as well as the largest provider of physician assistants, podiatric physicians and physical and occupational therapists in the East Bay. It offers degrees in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant and podiatric medicine. Additionally, Samuel Merritt offers three doctoral degree programs in podiatric medicine, physical therapy and nursing practice.

Samuel Merritt University is reputed for its personalized instruction, thanks to its dedicated faculty, who hail from a range of academic and clinical backgrounds. The university boasts state-of-the-art facilities including the Health Sciences Simulation Center. The Motion Analysis Research Center is equipped with the latest technology to study movement including a nine-camera, three-dimensional motion-capture system. The university is an affiliate of Sutter Health and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center.
