Based in San Francisco, the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity is a professional association of foundation executives and trustees who make environmental grants. Together, the 60 member organizations share knowledge and strategies, build partnerships and create a forum for leadership. Members take a holistic view of the environment, connecting habitat protection with climate and energy policy, human health and environmental justice.

Programs are designed to target attention on selected issues and to offer opportunities for strategic and collaborative grantmaking. Focus areas include climate and energy, conservation science, the Gulf of California, international initiatives, land and freshwater conservation and marine conservation. The organization directs the resources of the group by targeting a few key projects in each area. Members convene on a regular basis through conference calls and face-to-face meetings. An annual convening brings together the entire membership.
