HealthImpact (formerly known as the California Institute for Nursing and Healthcare) was established in 2001 when a group of nurse leaders across the state saw the need for comprehensive planning in the field of nursing. The Oakland-based organization was created as a forum for cooperation and sharing best practices and is devoted to improving the health of Californians by promoting a dynamic, well-prepared nursing workforce.

The organization brings together leaders in nursing, academia and policy to ensure that nursing stays ahead of the rapid changes in health care. It serves as a catalyst for innovation, promotes the collaboration of partners from all areas in the field, focuses on solutions that revitalize the profession and plans for the future of nursing by publishing papers and offering educational opportunities.

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has awarded numerous grants to HealthImpact for the purposes of advancing nursing education and developing course curriculum, including the RN Transition Program which assists newly graduated and licensed RNs.
