Established in 1961, the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California is nonprofit hospital and health system trade association representing 185 hospitals and health systems in 50 of California’s 58 counties—from Kern County to the Oregon border. The council’s membership includes hospitals and health systems ranging from small, rural hospitals to large, urban medical centers, which includes more than 37,000 licensed beds.
The Healthcare Foundation of Northern and Central California is a supporting organization of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California. The foundation’s purpose is to help hospitals provide high quality health care and to improve the health status of the communities they serve.
Our work with the Healthcare Foundation of Northern and Central California focuses on leading Beacon, the Bay Area Patient Safety Collaborative, in supporting hospital convening, quality education and on-site support to hospitals participating in the collaborative and working on improvements in patient outcomes. The goal of this program is for 80 percent of Beacon member hospitals to achieve best-in-class patient safety and quality improvement targets.
Healthcare Foundation of Northern and Central California and the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California have received multiple awards through the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Patient Care program.
