Mills Peninsula Health Services is a nonprofit health care organization that serves patients in San Mateo County, California, just south of San Francisco. Founded in 1908 as the Church of St. Matthew Red Cross Guild, Mills Hospital merged with nearby Peninsula Hospital in 1985. A state-of-the art medical center was built in 2011, with 241 beds and 450,000 square feet of acute care hospital features including all private rooms, electronic patient charting and family sleeping accommodations. A connected 180,000-square-foot medical office building provides a wide range of outpatient services including surgery, rehabilitation and diagnostics. An extensive senior program provides education and services such as rehabilitation, medical day care and Alzheimer’s care to reduce hospital readmissions for older patients.

The health services organization is part of the Peninsula Coastal Region of Sutter Health, a family of nonprofit hospitals and physician organizations in Northern California that share resources and expertise to better serve patients. Mills Peninsula Hospital is supported by the Mills Hospital Foundation, which stewards local health care philanthropy to fund new equipment, facility improvements and nursing education in order to enhance patient comfort, safety, services and programs that exceed the hospital’s normal operating budget.
