Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
In 1871, the Episcopal Diocese of California opened San Francisco’s St. Luke’s Hospital with 17 beds. Over the next hundred plus years, the hospital has expanded operations to serve more patients and instituted nursing and medical training programs to support the development of new clinicians. The adjacent, St. Luke’s Health Care Center provides primary care services to Bay Area families. The Hospital also conducts community outreach and health education and wellness activities such as stress reduction and glaucoma screening.
In 2007, the hospital merged with California Pacific Medical Center to become its St. Luke’s campus. Since then, more than $170 million has been invested in new programs, services, equipment and facility upgrades. Improved training and recruitment for nurses has led to improved patient satisfaction. New operating rooms, improved emergency facilities and upgraded mother/baby and pediatric units have increased quality of care experiences and led to better health outcomes for patients.
