Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance, based in Chatham, Maine, was founded in 1991 by the local fishing fleet. Now a nationally-recognized organization and the leading voice for commercial fishermen in the area, the alliance brings the extensive experience of Cape Cod's commercial fishermen into the work of improving ocean and fisheries management.
Alliance members are small-scale, independent fishermen, most operating family-owned businesses. With the belief that fishermen possess the solutions to the challenges they face, the organization works to improve fishing regulations, expand research programs and develop educational and economic development projects in the community. The alliance also worked with local fishermen to create the Cape Cod Fisheries Trust, which aims to ensure that the Cape's local, smaller-scale fishing businesses continued to be profitable and sustainable.
