Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Founded in 1931, the Gordon Research Conferences, an organization based in West Kingston, Rhode Island, produces international scientific conferences. These conferences promote dialogue and free exchange of ideas at the research frontiers of the biological, chemical and physical sciences and their related technologies. The organization is named after Dr. Neil E. Gordon, a chemist at Johns Hopkins University who recognized in the late 1920s the difficulty in establishing good, direct communication between scientists.
Averaging 200 each year, these week-long convenings bring together scientists with common professional interests to discuss and examine of the most advanced aspects of their fields. The conferences provide a valuable format for disseminating information and ideas, which cannot be achieved by publications and presentations at larger scientific meetings. The organization also produces the Gordon Research Seminar Program, which provides opportunities for early-career scientists to interact with leaders who may later serve as mentors.
