Established in 1997, Meridian Institute is a nonprofit with a mission to help people solve problems, make informed decisions and implement solutions that improve lives, the economy and the environment. The organization works in seven topical areas: agriculture and food security, climate change and energy, environment and natural resources, global stability and security, health, sustainability and resilience, and science and technology. Its staff engage diverse stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, scientists and foundation and nonprofit executives, in problem-solving processes that range from mediation and dispute resolutions to national policy dialogue and international negotiations. Meridian also conducts strategic assessments and planning, offers administrative and meeting logistics services and develops information technology tools that support project goals.

Projects include the institute’s facilitation of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, an alliance of large corporations and environmental organizations jointly advocating for U.S. climate legislation. Another is the development of a multidisciplinary approach for reforming New England fisheries management. In addition to direct consultative support, Meridian offers three daily news services that summarize articles from peer-reviewed journals, international news wires and a variety of industry, government and nongovernmental sources on agriculture policy, food security and ag-biotech.
