Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Based in Oakland, California, the Public Health Institute generates and promotes research, leadership and partnerships to build capacity for strong public health policy, programs, systems and practices. Founded in 1964, the institute is home to more than 700 staff and 200 programs that touch virtually every area of health.
The organization partners with foundations, federal and state agencies, and other nonprofit organizations to mount and support a diverse array of research projects and public health interventions. Programs help farmworkers eat more healthily in California’s Central Valley, girls gain access to education in Nigeria, and hospitals support healthier populations across the United States. Its comprehensive operational infrastructure allows quick and effective initiation of new projects, service as a fiscal sponsor, incubation of new directions, partnership with foundations and state agencies and collaborations across sectors.
